It is important to be aware of what superfoods are if you want to achieve healthy weight loss. Typically plant foods, superfoods are loaded with plant nutrients referred to as phytonutrients. Additional nutrients run the list from vitamins, minerals, special fibers called prebiotics, and even more. With all the great things these plants foods contain, is it any wonder they're called super? And if that's not enough, studies have found that many of these superfoods can help in the prevention and treatment of many diseases because of specific properties they have. The list of benefits you'll get from superfoods is long and in addition to those benefits, you can use superfoods for weight loss.

Did you know that apples can be effective for weight loss? Not only will you derive the weight loss benefits, but apples contain soluble fiber which is great for keeping your arteries clear. Research has confirmed the weight related benefits, and this is probably due primarily to the malic acid content in apples. Malic acid has been found to break down body fat. You'll want to eat more than one apple each day for maximum results. You can expect to start shedding pounds if you combine this habit of eating apples with a low-fat diet.

If you follow a poor diet and fail to regularly exercise, the excess waste will be stored in your large intestines. If you don't believe that's a serious thing that you should be concerned about, try this: when Elvis Presley's body was being autopsied, approximately 45 pounds of built-up waste was discovered in his intestines. Fiber is very important then, and one superfood that's high in fiber is kiwi. Also, kiwi is rich in other nutrients. It's also found to have high concentrations of prebiotic factors. While the body can't digest prebiotics, the good bacteria residing in the digestive tract feed on prebiotics. If you incorporate kiwi in your diet, you'll find that your bowel movements become regular and waste won't build up in your intestines.

If you want a powerful superfood that also helps you lose weight, and then eat more berries. You'll find that some berries are more nutrient dense than others, but overall they're wonderful -- both in nutrition and taste. Berries are rich in antioxidants and other phytonutrients and will provide a level of prebiotic factors for probiotic growth. You can also give in to your sweet cravings by eating berries. It's because berries have natural sugars, which make them so much better and healthier for you than cookies, pastries, candies, and other sweets. In addition, the phenols (antioxidant compounds) in berries kill not just free radicals but the unhealthy bacteria in our digestive system. Berries are an effective weight loss aid because they help with digestion and waste elimination.

If you are looking for a diet in which to incorporate superfoods so you can lose weight, consider the Paleo diet. There are other diets out there but the Paleo diet seems to be a good fit because of it premise. You could imagine our early ancestors eating natural foods with most of these foods being plants. You could do what our early ancestors did and consume plant superfoods for weight loss.
