Botox is More Common than you Think

By Andrew Wughin

It's not surprising that Botox has become the preferred alternative to going under the knife. Surgery is much more expensive and a large group of the population simply does not have the financial resources for this. Botox on the other hand is relatively inexpensive, almost painless, requires no healing time and has almost no associated complications.

It has been used to treat thousands of patients medically and cosmetically for over twenty years. Botox is produced in a lab by a bacterium called clostridium botulinum and it has been purified under very strict controlled conditions.

Moderation Works Best with Botox

Although Botox treatments are so popular, there are still many myths surrounding the procedure. Like many beauty treatments, it is sometimes associated with frivolity and given a bad and undeserved reputation. Pictures of celebrities showing unnatural cosmetic surgery and extreme treatments can be wrongly mistaken for being the result of Botox. But Botox in the hands of a competent and practiced physician, simply does not produce those bad effects. Natural expressions should not be affected negatively in any way, as long as an experienced physician is administering the treatment.

A Desire for Youthful Skin

It is no secret that lines and wrinkles grow as we age as a result of skin changes. The forehead, eyes, and mouth are where we normally see these changes first. Time and again, the outcome is a look of fatigue. Facial muscles need to be relaxed and Botox does just that. In the end, patients have an improved expression.

When people smile, frown or make other facial expressions, wrinkles begin to form over time. The muscles that make the facial skin fold or crease, give rise to crease lines that form into permanent wrinkles. Botox prevents the formation of wrinkles through a simple technique designed to limit these muscles from causing creases.

The Day, What to Expect, and your Doctor

Although not required, your doctor may numb the area of the injection prior to administering your Botox injections. The procedure will likely take around ten minutes and you can return to daily activities shortly afterwards.

Botox courses are offered to doctors, dentists, assistants of physicians, and licensed nurses. Only physicians can buy Botox and it must be administered either by the physician or someone under their supervision.
