Have Beautiful, Youthful Hands

By Tanja M. Norla

We dedicate a lot of time caring for our facial skin, but have we considered our hands? It's easy to forget that your hands are actually exposed to the elements as much as your face - even more so, in fact, because your hands are a part of nearly every activity throughout the day.

Compounding the damage to the skin on our hands is the fact that the skin there is thin and does not have many oil glands.

Here are a few tips to keep your hands beautiful and healthy!

Regular exfoliation is important for glowing, fresh skin. Try using a gentler facial exfoliant, rather than a body scrub. An emollient cream will help keep your hands hydrated, filling in between the outer skin cells and replenishing the evaporated oils.

Pamper your hands at night, too. Cotton gloves worn while you sleep will help hydrate your hands after applying a thicker, oil-based hand cream. It's best to use cream at night because it lasts longer than lotion (there is time for it to fully absorb into your skin).

Wear gloves. Sun, wind and cold all take a toll on your hands; wearing gloves protects them. Be sure to keep a pair handy for gardening or working outdoors. Inside the home, rubber gloves will save your skin from chemicals used for cleaning and washing.

Every time you wash your hands, apply moisturizer. Frequent washing dries out the skin, especially when you use an antibacterial soap. For daily application, a fast-absorbing lotion is ideal, and it will fortify the moisture barrier of your skin. If you do particularly demanding work with your hands, like cleaning, you can apply an oil-based heavy cream before bed and in the morning.

Your hands age, as your skin does. Use at least SPF 15 sunscreen to keep age spots away.

Hands Speak Volumes About Age

If you want to know how old someone is, then don't look to his or her face for information. With so many advancements in cosmetic procedures in recent years, people can quite easily hide their age.

It is not so easy to treat the hands though, and they speak volumes about a person's age.

The hands change as we get older. The skin becomes looser and less plump. Age spots might appear, and wrinkles come along too. Luckily, the cosmetics industry in changing the ways in which we can treat our hands.

We can have plumper, tighter skin on our hands with the use of fillers - a major improvement in appearance. As a result wrinkles fade away and the surface takes on a smoother look.

Fillers improve the shape, and this hides big tendons and veins that often stick out when we get older. This procedure doesn't even take 30 minutes, you have results immediately, and they last just as long as the facial treatment would.

Thanks to new technologies, we can now even skin tones and erase the age spots caused by too many UV rays. Many popular facial treatments are able to be done on the hands now.
