Home Remedies For Lice Treatment

By Alison Wilcox

Lice are very small insects that can cause great discomfort especially when they are found on the head. Infestation can cause severe pains so it is necessary to prevent them. However, if you already have them in your hair, it will be nice to use some home remedies for lice treatment. Home remedies are relatively cheaper and they can be administered without any serious supervision.

You can remove a large number by combing out. However, this requires patience because the hair will be divided into sections and you have to allot substantial time to each of them to make sure you do the job well. Combing out will be a good option if you have a small child or a friend to help you. The technique is very common in places like Britain where the insect is resistant to most of the chemicals.

Combing out can take you several hours. Hence, it is advisable to have a portable DVD or TV in front of the both of you to make the task less tedious. This should be done during the day so that you will be able to see what you are doing. A back seat, clips, good comb, water or conditioner are also necessary. Don't forget to divide the hair into partitions as this will make it easier for you. The clips or pins are there to hold each partition before and after removing the insects from them.

Another method is by applying medicated shampoo to the hair. When you do this, leave it to stand for at least ten minutes before washing. You may do this in a bathtub while playing one of your favorite songs.

The work of the medicated shampoo is to kill the insects in your hair. You will therefore have to remove them when you are through. This can be done by rinsing with 50% vinegar. 50% vinegar is made by adding equal amounts of vinegar and water. If rubbed vigorously, the vinegar will dissolve the dead insects for easy removal. Since it has an unpleasant smell, you will have to rinse the hair a couple of times with fresh water.

After ten days, you should be able to notice a great difference in your hair. If this does not happen, try combining vinegar and olive oil in equal quantity and apply to the scalp. When you are done, cover the hair with your shower cap and leave for about sixty minutes before washing with the shampoo.

It is also believed that coconut oil can be used instead of vinegar and olive oil. However, you will have to leave the hair for more than one hour before washing with the shampoo. Coconut oil also makes the hair look more attractive. It can also be used with Listerine, which is one of the most powerful home remedies for treating lice.

Most times, children are responsible for the occurrence of these insects in the home. They do this by playing with dirty things and sharing combs and clothes with their friends. It is important to let them know how these activities can affect them. Lice treatment methods work well when there are preventive methods in place.
